This past weekend was a little rough, but baby, mommy and, yes, even daddy, are all doing fine. On Saturday Kari was feeling quite sick, with aches and pains, nausea and dizziness. We thought it must have been the bug that has been going around and that it would pass relatively quickly, but we were just getting started.
The nausea and pain got worse and worse and Kari didn't get any sleep that night. By morning nothing was staying down and this continued all day. After numerous, unsuccessful attempts to get fluids in her we started getting concerned about the health of the baby. We called the doctor who wrote a prescription to help with nausea and said that if it didn't help with keeping fluids down we should go into the emergency room.
After a few hours the nausea was still as persistent as ever so we drove two minutes to the St. Luke's across the street. We checked in, got an IV drip started and got Kari some medication for nausea and pain. We got an ultrasound to check on baby and make sure he/she was okay. The technician did a great job, but couldn't actually tell us anything about what she was seeing (though I did see an awfully baby-like splotch on the screen at one point). Once the results got to the radiologist and, in turn, up to our ER doctor we were told that baby is perfectly fine.
Kari was monitored for a few more hours while her arm gulped down well over a liter of IV fluids. Once she was hydrated again and her vitals were back to normal we were able to go home. So, in the end, it was a relatively short trip to the hospital (thank goodness!), but it helped a lot! Kari is still not feeling the greatest, but is doing better than yesterday (of course, that's really not all that hard to do). She was even feeling well enough to take some pictures!
