On Wednesday Kari found herself in a lot of pain and was asked by her doctor to come in to check on things. Of course, not knowing that a trip to the doctor's office would be needed I had the car at work and had no way to get home to take her. She called my parents to see if they could come pick her up and, as it turned out, they were just finishing up with one of my dads doctor's appointments near our apartment. They came right over and took Kari to see her doctor.
Once there the doctor plopped some gel on Kari's stomach and began pushing around with a doppler. After a few minutes a very quick whooshing sound could be heard. For those of you who have experienced this before you know exactly what that sound was - baby's heartbeat! It was holding consistently around 160bpm, which is pretty much perfect for a baby at this stage of development. All in all, baby is doing just fine! (The same cannot be said about his/her mother though.)
When Kari told me she got to hear the heartbeat I was pretty jealous, but understood the situation and was glad she got checked out and that that things were going well for baby. Fortunately we had another appointment already scheduled for Friday, for which I had already taken work off. The doctor again pushed around on Kari's gooped up stomach and eventually found the same sound. We got to hear our baby's heartbeat! :)
That heartbeat is always such a reassuring and beautiful sound. We'll keep Kari in our prayers. I hope she feels better soon. We love you, all three of you! :)
